T 25 Weightloss Journey

Starting a new journey to anything is always hard. Whether you’re  moving, starting a new school, a new job, a new workout plan or a new meal plan.

My journey to health, healing and happiness started with having my daughter. In the beginning, change was rough and patchy but I moved through it. There have been many ups and downs and in and outs but I am still here moving through the daily struggle of being a mom of 3, a fashion designer, an author, a wife.

In this 3 year journey to weight loss, I have lost weight, gained weight, had fibroids, lost weight, gained a little, hit plateaus, maintained at 170, gained 20lbs and now I’m getting back into my routine to working out.

Eating clean in the past 4 years has not been a problem but being consistent with my fitness level has been a struggle, my weakness. So last week was my first week of doing T25 with Shaun T.

Because my sons play baseball and my oldest made the District team, my schedule surrounds his practices and games. I don’t have much time to drive to the and I don’t like working out at home because I need my space to clear my thoughts and having kids run around while trying to focus on me for an hour is a struggle.

T25 allows me to wake up at 8 am and workout before the kids even eat breakfast. With No interruptions, I can sweat hard with minimal time and still do everything I can within the time I have to work with.

My only problem with T25 was the 5 day fast track meal plan. As you know I’m 93% vegan and 7% vegetarian. Every once in a while, I will have a thin crust cheese pizza with vegetables. The meal plan was not my standard of eating so I created a plan similar to the plan included in the package. This week, I will be posting my 5 Day Vegan fast track meal plan.

The App to Change Your Life : N+TC (Nike Training Club)

Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced fitness enthusiast, Nike has an app that friends are beyond obsessed with including myself. Nike Training Club (N+TC) is an amazing app that’s filled with hundreds of workouts for every fitness levelNike+TC and schedule. Whether you have 15 minutes or 45 minutes, there are workout routines that can fit into anyone’s schedule.

Because my schedule fluctuates daily, I don’t have much time to commit to a full workout plan but this app is perfect for me because it feels like I have my own personal trainer without paying the trainer price tag. I have the ability to finish 15 minutes of cardio, abdominals, arms, glutes, thighs and multiple muscle groups and left with nothing but sweat running down my body.  Nike does not play games!

After you download the app, you are able to select a workout based on your goal and fitness activity. The following options being: GET LEAN, GET TONED, GET STRONG, GET FOCUSED. From there you are taken to a menu with a ton of different workouts geared towards the goal you selected. One of the apps coolest features is that there is audio instruction and videos showing you execution of each move if you are unsure what each movement means. If you don’t have a kick ass audio play-list for your workout [you need to get one], you can always listen to your favorite Pandora station and still hear the interactive trainer as well. How cool is that?

My favorite perk is that it tracks your progress! and you can train any and everywhere like a pro. Every workout is calculated by the minutes and as the minutes add up you get rewards or fuel points!!! So set goals and make them. Just do it and get moving!

Chronicles of Traveling

As much as I thought I would be able to stay committed to the 21 day health challenge my thoughts were incorrect.

I was dedicated and saw results within the first two weeks.  It kept me motivated until I got to my first destination. Since having to drive daily and not being able to have a kitchen to cook in, my food supply ran out.

However, I did make good choices without eating out. I ate boring salads except the day we went to Golden corral to eat dinner and I indulged in two rolls. There’s just no way to go to Golden corral and not eat one roll.

I have to say that my smoothies came in handy! They kept me afloat and it allowed me to make overall healthy choices.

I also worked out a bit. From Kileen to Dallas. I rode the stationary bike outdoors which had me in sweats. From weight training to running, my overall vacation was steady but bit as hard as I usually push myself.

Dallas was filled with family laughter, visiting friends, driving and fun. Some visitations turned into work and some relaxation time turned into funny moments.

Then this came from my visit with powerhouse executive from Front House Management PR, Karen Michelle.

I figured, if I couldn’t stick with my 21 Day Health challenge while on vacation,

then I would at least focus in working out. So I tagged along with a friend for Camp Gladiator (CG). The warm up was intense but the moves were gladiator esq. there was a woman who had a 3 week old and was ahead of everyone. I was in awe of her but The dedication and commitment she had to keep going amazed me. She’s definitely a fitness gladiator and epitomizes the slogan of Go Hard, You are strong.

For all the inner gladiators, go hard, go strong, and keep moving. Don’t let doubts hinder you from achieving goals.

And then there was brunch.

Effortless girl talk with Karen Michelle and Vanna Collins made the experience easy breezy. Factory Glam and LADASKA MECHELLE  gave away some things and people loved it.

The fashion presentation was two thumbs up with pieces from my collection and jewelry from Trudi Bell.

Family and friends enjoyed brunch from Jorge’s Tex Mex Cafe’ at One Arts Plaza in Dallas. The waterfall was streaming, the sun was shining and good people came together to support.

And it ended with Willie Johnson keeping his word to show his support and Karen and I doing an interview for her podcast on The O TV. Thank you to everyone that came out before we left.

HEALTH to tha VILLE

Great places to take kids this week would be the Long Island Children’s Museum (LICM). This season’s exhibit, Healthyville, is all about being smart with your health. Knowing your muscles, being active, and choosing healthy meal options through exploring is what got me excited about Healthyville.

Kids of all ages are encouraged to enter. They have various stations wher you’re moving your feet, arms and entire body to get your heart pumping. Even I was able to get on a station with my daughter to measure our heart rate while being active.

Showing kids through demonstrations on how to maintain and take care of their bodies in a fun way was exciting. We were all over the place. My daughter enjoyed it and you will see her demonstration on muscles in the picture below.

We will definitely go back as education and knowledge about food and health plays a huge role in my house. So fuel up , be active, and head over to the LICM.

FITNESS-FLAWLESS,100lbs & FLAWLESS

From 140lbs-284lbs (maybe more) to 170lbs, my life has been an up and down rollercoaster of losing and gaining weight, mainly from having three kids.

Weight is a topic that no one but everyone likes to discuss. Fat and weight has a love hate relationship with people especially women. We strive for this idea of “perfection” wrapped in desirability from other women and men. Just the mere fact of being over weight makes a woman feel like they’re not desirable, like they’re not beautiful because the perception of others has allowed us to believe that the weight we have carried determines our value and beauty in life.

But what determines beauty? What determines your value? Weight only has value when you are a diamond. The value I carry is not weighed by the fat that’s on my body yet the wealth of knowledge that I carry, the way I uphold my values, the way I enlighten my children, the way I infuse my spirituality with growing and nurturing life, the way I open my mind to “endless” thoughts, goals, dreams and possibilities.

My battle with weight and confidence began after having my first son because I gained 80lbs. I didn’t like the weight I had become. My reflection in the mirror was not that of a young and confident 140lb woman. My luster buried itself within me, and my ideas became dull and blunt on the outside covered with makeup to shield the inner yet outer layer of thoughts about who I was, based on what beauty was thought to be.

I remember trying every pill, diet, fad, and weight loss program I could think of. All of them were temporary fixes with a short gain without long term substance. Losing weight was stressful and at times, it felt like a full time job. Although, I began to lose some of the weight but once I came off the pills or diet, it didn’t sustain me, so my weight continued to fluctuate.

IT wasn’t until I tried something different!

ENOUTH ABOUT THE PAST! LET’S FAST FORWARD TO THE PRESENT!

Once, I had my daughter, I became intrigued with gardening and finding natural remedies for everything. It took me on a journey from gardening to natural hair, to completely changing my eating habits. I knew that I wasn’t at a stage where I could quit eating everything cold turkey, so I stopped eating beef and substituted everything that was beef with lean turkey as I had already given up pork 6 years prior. I eventually started to get comfortable with slowly changing my diet and stopped eating chicken altogether. It was tough at first but once I got through it week by week, I started to feel natural, lighter, and healthier.

DONT TAKE MY WORD FOR IT! Just look at my pictures. The majority of my weight loss came from change of diet. Transitioning from eating unhealthy to eating like I was naked.

STAY TUNED for tips on ways to transition to a better YOU!

Grounded by Yoga

Let’s just say that we have all wondered what is the humdrum of yoga.  Don’t fret because you have the rest of your lifetime to figure it out.

“For those who have an intense urge for Spirit and wisdom, it sits near them, waiting.” ― Patañjali, The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali

When I was thirteen years old, I bought my first yoga book.  I trained as a gymnast but was never on the competitive team.  Reminiscing on the book cover, I saw a body that  can be strong and flexible beyond teenage years.  Of course, at the time, I had no access to yoga classes but knew that in my adult life, yoga would be an integral part of it.

Long story short, loneliness and depression pushed me into yoga teacher training.  I remember feeling so crippled but knew that there was a deeper issue to heal.  I found Purusha Yoga in San Francisco and signed up for the weekend training program.  This was my catalyst for change.  Yeah, the perks of a fit body was appealing, but I knew a good soul searching will make you shine just as brightly.

Here’s a seed: I found peace and mind control in meditation.  Even if I could not get to practice, I can at least sit with myself for five to 15 minutes daily.  I charge you as a reader to try this:  fix your posture, set your timer, and focus on your breathe.  If your easily distracted, just ground yourself back in the rhythm of your breathe, mentally visualizing “Breathe in, I am breathing in.  Breath out, I am breathing out”.  Now, notice how grounded you are in your body.

Share your thoughts below.  Until next time…

Godspeed,

Lauren
